El Porvenir
Designing for education, community, and sustainable impact
Mural design (2023) | Event creative direction (2025) | Brand development (2026)
In my second year of undergrad, I took a leave of absence from USC to live in a small agricultural town called San Telmo, in Baja California, Mexico, for 7 months.
I was an English and art teacher at a school called "Colegio El Porvenir" which translates to "The Future"
Built with the purpose of sharing the love of God and ending cycles of poverty and exploitive farm labor, the school helps low-income students stay in classrooms and be able to attain higher education.
I interviewed students, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

I designed the murals illustrating their dream careers, including verses not just to brighten the school but to inspire students to learn and chase after their God-given dreams. The murals surrounded newly built computer labs—where many touched a computer for the first time.

It was here that I was able to recognize design as a simple yet powerful, tangible tool to impact lives.

After the murals were finished, I got to bring design into a new space:       the Gala of Grace (Gardena, California, December 2026), a fundraising event for the school.
I served as Creative Director and designed all the graphics for the event — from invitations to signage to digital materials — shaping the look and feel so it told the story of the students and the school.
Seeing the space come alive with color, type, and visuals that reflected the school’s mission reminded me how design can connect people and inspire action in real life.
The night exceeded every expectation — we set out to raise $40,000, and by the end, we had raised $60,289.97 to support the school and its students. Seeing how design, visuals, and storytelling brought people together and inspired generosity was an unforgettable reminder of the impact creative work can have!

Manna Cafe is the only sit-down cafe bakery existing in rural town San Telmo, B.C. Mexico. Built to give farm laborers a place to rest and commune together, Manna Cafe also helps financially sustain the town’s Christian private school which helps low-income students stay in education and out of exploitive work & practices.
